Nothing is Quite as Powerful as Sisters Rising Together –KSR.
~~~~I’ d like to introduce you to my brilliant, artist friend, Elizabeth Cassidy— She is an Illustrator, Peace Lover, Founder of Little Love Letters, Peaceful Revolution & The Odd Sister Greeting Cards, whom happens to live in the Big Apple.
At first, we had only met virtually as we had the same passions about art, poetry, writing, and changing the world. We had also written for an online magazine called, Skirt.
But we shared another story; Elizabeth’s family member, Kathy McCormack, was allegedly murdered by her estranged husband, Robert Durst. You may have heard of him in the media. There’s been several stories and documentaries about him.
Thus, this parallel caused Elizabeth and I to become fast friends.
- Elizabeth’s Story:
My family member, Kathy McCormack was only 29 when she disappeared. If you ask me, she didn’t just vanish. She was killed by her husband (a term he never deserved) Robert Durst. The agony it put my aunt’s family through still haunts me. Kathy and her family came to my parents home for barbecues and family events, and I always tell people she laughed at all my father’s jokes and my three younger brothers were smitten by her. She was really a nice person. A person who was going to become a doctor and work with kids. That never happened, because Durst couldn’t stand losing his control. Kathy has never been found. Durst is now is jail awaiting trial for another murder.
- Kim’s Story:
As many of you already know, my sister was executed by her estranged husband on May 26, 2010. He left work early that day saying he had several appointments. One of his appointments was to kill my sister. As she was getting ready to go for her daily walk, he grabbed his gun, walked up behind her shooting her three times in the head. He then shot himself in the left temple. The world darkened, shook, and stood silent for two years.
That was then…
Today is a new day. A new horizon.
More about light than darkness. More about rising than falling. More about living than dying.
Today is not about victimization; it is about solutions, hope, empowerment, and moving forward from where we find ourselves.
Together, Elizabeth and I are rising from darkness by telling our stories and offering education to women about domestic abuse.
One thing I can guarantee is this: There is HOPE for a better life!
***Here are some things “YOU” can do TODAY:
- Purchase Elizabeth’s’ Cards!
“When I designed this “Odd Sisters” card, I was working on a title. I put the art up on Facebook and Kim wrote, how about “Kay and Kim” and someone else mentioned a garden party. I put the 2 together and named it “Kay And Kim Meet Again At The Garden Party.” It was my little tribute to Kay.
A portion of money from these cards will go to Save Haven in Duluth, Minnesota.”
