Chicks Who Rock Kim's Blogs

Domestic Violence, Murder, & Rising Up.

Beautiful Kay

—–How do you plan a rebirth? I’m not sure you do. You just stand in the darkness until you can’t endure it any long, and then you move forward until you’re standing in the light.” –Ahmir Q. Thompson

—My sister, Kay, was murdered on May 26th, 2010 by her estranged husband of 25 years. I’ve said this so many times that this sentence is now part of my vocabulary, my soul, my identity. It was the darkest, ugliest, longest, insufferable & most unbearable day of our lives. We were devastated…

But.   Not.    Destroyed

In honor of my darling sister, we’ve had walks to bring awareness to domestic violence, donated all of her beautiful organs, and I created a blog, My Inner Chick, dedicated to her and others who need support Rising Up.

And there is something else on the horizon. Trish Sisto, Kay’s son’s wife, will be walking the entire Appalachian Trail  ( 6 Months) beginning on Kay’s birthday ( April 11 ), which is approximately 2,190 to miles to raise money for women and their children leaving an abusive situation. (100% of the donations will be going to this cause.).

Read Trish’s ( she’s on the right) Blog HERE to learn much more:

After the Murder

Trish will walk for 2,190 miles in honor of Kay, but also to raise AWARENESS for all women, men, and children in a domestic abusive situation.

If I could go back a few decades, I would hike the whole Appalachian trail. What an amazing experience for Trish, and to do it in Kay’s honor makes it even more powerful.

What a wonderful way to heal and raise money as well as awareness of domestic violence. Our cabin in Bland, VA is near the Appalachian Trail, and I’ve seen hikers coming through town with their backpacks. I wish her every good luck and days of pleasant weather.
