  1.   I gravitate towards people who are unconventional,  authentic, non-judgmental,  a bit rebellious, & laugh at my jokes.

 

2.   When I meet another female,   I typically know immediately if I want her as a girlfriend.  Afterwards,  my friends will ask:    “Kim, so,  would you go out with her for a glass of wine?”  Or  “Is she Wineworthy?”     Well,  are ya, Punk?

 

  1.  Mr. Liverpool says I get a tinsy weensy fanatical about certain things—like writing,  books, blogging,  chocolate, certain movies, & social media.    I’m not sure what the hell the dude’s talking about because I’m too busy updating my facebook status.

 

  1.   Three reasons I write today:     1.  Sylvia Plath   2.  Jonathan Livingston Seagull   3.  Kay

     

  1.   I know all of the dialogue from Terms of Endearment &  The Turning Point

 

  1. I love cat tails  ( the real ones)  I cannot walk by a cat without sliding my fingers down her soft tail.  Weird, but true.

 

  1. When my sister and I were on our sister dates,  people could hear us talking & laughing from a mile away.  That’s called being ITALIAN, babe!

 

  1.  I never wrote the word “Fuck” in my writing until after my sister was murdered.

 

  1. I’m addicted to this new kick ass blog site: The Sister Wives

 

10    Okay,  perhaps I am a bit obsessive.  This summer, I devoured the 2nd series of Orange is the New Black  &  Downton Abbey in three days.  I was abundantly satisfied.

 

11.   Before I send out cards  ( YES,  old-fashioned, handwritten cards ),  I sprinkle gold or silver glitter on the inside.  ( give me your address & I’ll send you one )

 

12. My favorite new author is Gillian Flynn.  I just adore complex characters with layers upon layers of imperfection.  I want to peel that onion continually as I read…You get my drift?

 

13.  Besides all of Flynn’s books,  the best book I’ve read all summer is:   The Story Teller by Jodi Picoult

 

14.  I love love love the scent of turkey roasting, buns rising, dressing bubbling, & gravy simmering.

 

15.  One of my favorite movie scenes from Terms of Endearment:  HERE!!

 

16.   I believe in God,  everlasting life, &  the resurrection.  I believe Kay and I will be united in a new kind of paradise, which I look forward to.  I have so much to tell her…so many secrets to share.

 

17.   I’d walk 10 miles for a diet coke ( Lime is optional )

 

18.  I believe hierarchy definitely exists in the blogging world.  Once again, I’m back in high school,  you know, the weird, unpopular girl trying desperately to fit in.

 

19.   I constantly spell piece incorrectly.  It’s only correct now because of spell-check. I don’t understand why my brain cannot comprehend “I before E except after C.”

 

20.  I believe every single experience,  good and bad,  prepare us for the next experience.

 

21.   I have a few girlfriends I call my “root friends,”  meaning they’ve been there from the very beginning.   Nooo. they’re not old!  They are beautiful, smart, patient, amazing, hilarious, accomplished superstars.   And if I were a lesbian, I’d marry all of them.

    Thank God someone finally recommended a good book to read…I’m tired of movies that send me under my pillow, put me on the edge of my bidet and keep my finger on the 911 key out of fear.

    See..my (current) fav. author has become predictable. Sigh.

    Miss and think about you!!!!
    My ” root” friends have been with me all my life and will be forever!! These friends that I have been blessed with encourage and inspire me. They have shaped a part of who I am. We have gone through life experiences good and bad together. Laughed and cried. Always great conversation, fun and much love. These are friends I can be my true self with and know they’ll never judge me. If we don’t see or talk to each other for awhile when we do get together its like we never parted. There are so many memories to laugh and some tears. Life is never boring with my “root” best friends! They are beautiful , intelligent , creative, funny and I love them with all my heart. You my dear Kimmy are one of them.

    I love ‘root friends’, they seem like soul mates.
    I couldn’t appreciate the weird world that Gillian Flynn creates.
    I see more such words at a number of places, which are commonly misspelt…quite and quiet, there and their, week and weak. And many more…

    While you may gravitate towards people that have a bit more of the zany side in them I see you as being able to get along with anyone, Kim! As long as the person is mutually engaging (meaning they aren’t – me, me, me) and aren’t in a constant whine cycle I’m all in for the person to chat with! I love your list, sweets! And no glitter in cards please LOL!

    Good gawd, please do not do that “fitting in” thing because then you will cease to be…nope, not cease to be with something tacked on the end…like original, authentic, funny, straightforward, fabulous, remarkable, flamboyant, or elegant…just, you will cease to be, and we can’t have that. No fitting in—-it doesn’t become you! So there.

    Now, back to other stuff. Here are a few of my own “I-related things:”

    1. I am a huge Deborah Batterman fan, but that said, this fabulous comment cannot win because a) there are much better ones and b) I already own and cherish her wonderful collection.

    2. I binge-watched “Scandal” and am now mourning the fact that there are none left to watch. Ok, I also pretty-much binge-watched “House of Cards” too, but somehow I’m less sad about that.

    3. An old friend friended me today and I was so happy that he got over whatever was keeping him from friending me in the first place that I set my hair on fire. Ok, not really, but I thought about it.

    4. I know people always say you should love your stretch marks because they represent your babies, but I know scads of baby-mommas who have perfectly un-stretched stomachs and I’m fairly certain not one of them wishes she could have a stomach like mine. The thing is, my road-mapped tummy is the sole reason I didn’t become an exotic dancer. The tips would have been nice, but I’m fairly certain I would have regretted it in the end (Note to all the would-be bosses looking to hire this fifty year old stretch-marked writer, this is humor.).

    5. I am a proud pluviophile, which is one of my favorite words because it sounds kind of, erm, wrong, but it’s totally not.

    I li lurve Gillian Flynn. Like a lot. Like more than is healthy. I read Gone Girl a practically in one sitting, then had to read the other two. Devoured those too. Have you read them? We should talk. Have some wine. I think you’re my kind of girl. I write fuck a lot. I’m not sure what that says about me.

    Did you read Gone Girl? It’s on my list. One of these days. And I just LOVED season 2 of Orange, though I think it took me an entire week to watch. That show is perfection.     I absolutely love Terms of Endearment and when I was studying Scriptwriting we studied that script and I got to watch scenes from the movie all day long. I love how you still write handwritten cards (is there anything better than receiving a handwritten card in the letter box!) And the touch of glitter – gorgeous! And if we were at blogging school together, I’d ask if I could hang out with you. Fabulous post as usual xx

    I’m sooo addicted to books I can’t do anything but read! I do not clean, cook, visit FB very often! A book a day. When I am finally forced to stop reading for a wk. or so, I dare not pick up another for perhaps 2-5 yrs.

    I believe in God the Ressurection and pray I see my loved ones soon! I miss them fiercely!

    I hate being sick at such a young age, because I’ll call my fanatical things…my passions, have always been God, mental health(especially children), our Vets.

    Remember Reilly is E beforeI! Lol

    I’m currently reading my book a day, but watched seasons 8-12 in a wk. or so! LOVE IT!!

    Turkey dinner! Christmas Eve at grandma and grandpa Hughes’s. Memories to cling to!

    Exceptional qualities. Not best. Anxiety. They all have it, we, I should say we, and anxiety seems to be the one thing we always connect on. Yes we can chat about recipes and sex and groupons. But the one thing that connects us, strips away all the day to day niceties is anxiety. I guess it’s not exceptional since we all experience it. But what comes from that rawness is absolutely fucking exceptional.

    We’re a lot alike except for the cat thing. Love #1 & 2. Can’t live without #17..Must have one a day. I’m a strong believer in #20. I never used the F word till this year because I’ve come across so many bad people the past 3 years, the kind that kick you when you’re down.     I love Terms of Endearment. It’s one of my all time favorite movies. I cry like a baby every single time I watch it too! Gillian Flynn is out of this world. I own all of her books and every book written by Jodi Picoult. You have excellent taste in reading material.

    So, Chick, you have absolutely nailed this one.

    My girls have to be the bestest at being honest and letting me prove I am utterly human without laughing until I am laughing at myself.

    When the proverbial rain is falling I can marathon watch Law & Order and M*A*S*H. Bones is the only contemporary show I even have a vague interest; although the statement is blatantly unfair. I have not watched broadcast television in years and only watch shows via DVD, BluRay or subscription.

    I would uncork with you again in a flash, my sweet. You are most definitely wine-worthy.

    I don’t know where to start…I just love your 1, 2, 11, 12….and most of all, 21! That had me laughing because that’s exactly how I feel about my girlfriends!

    My girlfriends’ exceptional qualities?
    Unconditional love.
    Never hesitating to rap my knuckles when they think I am being a wimp.
    Never think twice about hugging me even if I stink – physically or in my behavior (reading me the riot act comes after).
    Supporting me, standing by me, no matter what.
    Seamlessly taking over my life when I am going through a bad patch and can’t seem to move ahead.
    Giving me the push when I doubt myself.
    Being my coach, sisters, friends, all rolled into one – and that’s a BIG challenge that they ace effortlessly.
    Being there for me. Always.
    You know what they say about good friends vs. best friends – here’s a Groucho Marx quote that totally sums up my gals – “”When you’re in jail, a good friend will be trying to bail you out. A best friend will be in the cell next to you saying, ‘Damn, that was fun’.”
    I can confidently say all this as I’ve experienced it for 40+ years now, Kim.

    The best people are the ones who *think* they are “…the weird, unpopular girl trying desperately to fit in…” when actually they are the Queen Bee and we all are her drones, just following everything little jot and tittle she writes down. That would bee thee, eee-friend. Buzz for me! I am simply a drone at your beck and call. Why? Because your words make me feel, inspire me, make me cry, teach me, introduce me to your awesome sister, and most of all, make me think.

    Truth? My best friend is Alpha Hubby. In my entire life, he is the only one who knows me inside and out. To be honest it is only because I never allowed any of my female friends to really know the real me. Ever. He and I were just talking about that today – how NO ONE knows my entire history because I never shared. Huh. Thank God for him – he freed me.

    Kim, my dearest friends are the ones that listen without judging me. They are the ones I love to go out to lunch or dinner with. And they all love thrift stores. We have a blast in thrift stores. I’ve shopped for years and never had a better time than in a good thrift store! I will check out what you have been reading. I read DRY a few years back after you recommended it and it has turned out to be one of my favorite books ever! And as far as blogs go, yours is the ONLY one I read that is not a food blog. And it is my FAVORITE! I think I’ve told you that before too!!! LOVE YOUR BLOG!

    Kim, I love the term “Root Friends.” I’d never thought of it like that before, but it’s so descriptive. To me, those friends are the ones who knew me “back then” and never deserted me. The ones who accepted that I wasn’t Miss Popular and probably never would be. The ones who found it kind of cool that I loved reading, writing, and school.
    I have the same trouble spelling “sleep.” Why, I don’t know. It’s a simple little word, really, and you’d think spelling it would come easy.
    Love that we share a fondness for old-fashioned, handwritten cards and letters! Technology is grand, of course, but there’s something so permanent about handwriting.

    Terms of Endearment – one of the BEST movies ever! Also love Jodi Picoult, and so much on your list.

    To me, a best girlfriend will tell you the truth before you go on a date or an interview about your hair, makeup, or clothes – IF you have time to fix what’s wrong. If you don’t, she simply tells you that you look marvelous.

    I’m so glad you commented on my story about Liverpool and the Beatles. My daughter married a Carling and the only place we could get some Carling Beer was in British cities like Liverpool. It cracked us up that this manly looking pub had only the Beatles music playing. You would think the regulars would start asking if there were any other songs besides only those on the jukebox.

    I just finished Gone Girl. I was hooked. I love how it was written with the “he said, she said”. But, I was very disappointed by the end… I can’t wait to see the movie. Apparently, they changed the end.

    Oh Kim- your words are always such a refreshing burst to my spirit!! You are a powerhouse of richness all your own… you don’t fit into a hierarchy of any kind. Sometimes God creates a soul that soars far and above the masses that battle beneath their wings- and you are one of them. You are like fire- nothing will every soak you out… You just burn too bright.

    Those secrets you wanna tell Kay? I have a good feeling she knows them already… 😉

    Exceptional qualities of my girlfriends – specifically my Compass girlfriends – are compassion (they’re kind to themselves, as well as to others), confidence (what’s said in Compass, stays in Compass), curiosity (they don’t cast judgment or make assumptions), open-mindedness (they love to learn), and humor.

    Aw, I love this Kim. So honest and raw, as all of your writing is. My root girlfriends are good listeners, have a fabulous sense of humor and most of all? They accept me just the way I am! Kind of like Darcy on Bridget Jones only better because they’ll always be there. I LOVE the smell of cinnamon buns baking in the oven. Inevitably they overflow and make a mess of the oven. 🙂

    I don’t think I’ve historically been a great ‘friend picker’ — it’s something I’m coming into later in life. My best handful of girlfriends are quite different from each other and they don’t really know or hang out with each other. I have friends for certain things, I guess. Like my very Holy I-can-talk-to-YOU-about-Spiritual-stuff girlfriend. And my YOU-really-get-me-because-you’re-a-crazy-Artist-like-me girlfriend. And then, there’s all my online, cyber, blogging friends — I probably spend more time with them than anybody! Probably the main threads are depth, authenticity and humor. Of course, I see all those qualities in YOU, too, Kim! Thank you for being my friend! XOXOXO

    What a kick ass list of things and stuff. I relate to #1 for sure. Also, as I am half Italian and grew up in an Italian household I think I lost some hearing because everyone is so loud!

    There are many bloggers I would call wineworthy that I have met on the internet. For me it would be beer and shot worthy!

    I hope this doesn’t come across as weird or creepy, but since I’ve gotten to know you through your words I really feel as though I KNOW you somehow… and I’m convinced that we would be very good friends. 1) I love Italians 2) We share the same tastes in reading material (PS: I believe it was you who recently told me about Husband’s Secret, right??     I stayed up until 2:30a.m. watching Orange is the New Black – both seasons and finished in less than 2 days. It’s just that good. Also, you’re not the weird kid – all of us who blog are weird! And I love Gillian Flynn. Seriously. Oh and now I want roasted turkey. Probably not going to happen. I do have a diet Coke though!

    Hi Kim! I really hope I can be wineworthy of you! if so, then I would bring the world largest cheese platter and gigantic chocolate cake for you, true! I’m actually so pleased to have my great girlfriends from high school, still in my life all these years later! Nothing makes me happiest, then when we all head home, catch up at Christmas and have the best gossp in the world. It’s like nothing has ever changed!!!
