A Room Of My Own & Other Groovy Stuff

A woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction nonfiction–Virginia Woolf

—-My Writing Room is finished.
I told my best girl, Tia, about this particular chandelier I desperately
wanted, needed, coveted for a ‘Room Of My Own.’

I said,  “There’s one
more thing I require to make this room complete.  You know,
sort of like the exclamation at the end of the sentence.”

The next moment,
there she is at my door with this fabulous, fun, frivolous, girly gift.  What do you think?  I LOoooooVE You,  Tia.  Thank you for loving me back.

~A card from my greatest encourager, soul-mate, and bestest friend in the entire world,  my sister Kay.   I miss you.  I miss you.  I miss you. I miss you. I miss you….

~ This is what spurs me forward to keep Kay’s memory and story alive.  It arrived the other day in the mail.

~My favorite new quote.

~If my poetry sang a song, This Is What She\’d Sound Like

What I’m reading now.
I’m lovin’ it.

~I Rise I Rise  I Rise…Because My Sister Cannot.  Click & Rise With ME!!!!!

~  Charlie,  The Cat. (otherwise known as Little Bastard)  This is their new book club pick.

~My mentor, friend, daughter, and sister from Kenya,  Mercy Adhiambo.  I LOOooove your hair like that!  I love you.

~Another view from “A Room Of My Own.

–Darling, Reader,  Do
you have a room of your own?

What a wonderful room for writing! That chandelier is fantastic. I do not have a room of my own but I do have a small niche in a bright room. It works quite well and I have a bulletin board with my inspiration and book titles I’m working on pinned to it. A small shelf sits between the desk and bulletin board with some of my tiny art sketches, colored pencils, favorite books, notebooks. I loove that Janis Joplin version of summertime. What an excellent comparison to your poetry. This year was the first year I am Rising…and will every year. Have a great weekend Kim!

I do, I do! Alpha Hubby built me this amazing office just for me that has two 6’x4′ windows that are extremely distracting! I am working to personalize and make it say “This is MINE” and it’s taking some time to find my voice, that perfect expression of me! I love your office, love, love, love your chandelier that screams “Kim” – and most especially, Charlie’s picture!

So cool! And I love your links to YouTube songs, because I never know what cool thing you are directing us too : ) Ha-ha, Summertime by Janis Joplin (Love Janis’s rendition of this song! : ) & Rise Up, an amazing & powerful video (Thanks Kim, I really needed to see this today – made me feel good!). Love the lamp too! I’m always on the look out for one of those oil lamps (remember those?!), from the 70’s that had an oil waterfall! They used to sell them at Goldfine’s By the Bridge, ha-ha!

Have a great, wonderful long weekend & thank you for your words!

I LOVE that you have a room of your own! Yes! It is soooo important. I don’t know why once we get married we are supposed to give that up. That’s when we need it most! Ha ha. I also have a room of my own where I write and draw and read and stare into space. I love it there. It’s so fun and important to decorate and design something that is just us.

Enjoy your time in there. And I love the pic of Mercy, gorgeous indeed!

Love it !! Every woman needs a room of her own. Someone told me that years ago and then she inspired me by showing me hers. I talked to hubby who helped carve out a space for me next to the laundry. I know, I know, but it has walls and a door and it is MINE! I love my little writing cave, as I fondly call it.

And I have so been thinking of making a funky, artsy chandelier as soon as I find a cool wire form to work with. I will have to post pics on Facebook and tag you once I do.

Write , write, write your heart out!!!!!!

Like Virginia Woolf (who I also love) you are a writer. And would write in a dungeon, probably with ten broken fingers. For which I am grateful. So very grateful.
But your room of your own is AMAZING. Beautiful and inspiring. And the chandalier is a quirky delight.

I also wanted to thank you for all your wonderful, thoughful and kind comments – they mean a lot to me and you always make my day when you “come by for a visit”.

    Greetings human,

Today is a good day. Today you are receiving a highly-collectable comment from me, yes me, Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar!

Quite the room you have there. A great room to be inspired, indeed I’ve worked out your name is “Kim”. Your cat, Charlie, looks suspiciously like one of the ever growing legion of cat fans that try to contact me on Skype.

Yes, I go out for a bit of a sniff and a bit of nature’s calling in my garden. Then I come back inside, snuggle up on a really big cushion and pawblish one of my pawsts.

You are doing very well and I like that great big light in your very own room.

Critical! Totally necessary. My problem, Kim…I have a whole HOUSE of my own. And now when I have company, I am distracted no matter where they are in the house. Well, maybe if they stayed more than a few days…

But when I was married, I would set up a space for me in our homes. My space was/is essential for my sanity, happiness and writing. A man was wooing me recently and really wanted a permanent relationship. However, he told me how he couldn’t understand couples who talked about their own space.

I said, “Well, it would be impossible for me to live without a room of my own. Where I could shut the door and know I would not be interrupted.”

“You wouldn’t want one if you married me,” he said and I believe he really believes it.

Another world, another life, another letting go.

I have my room, too (or rather, it’s a section of a room), and I feel most at peace there, surrounded by lovely things of my own choosing. Usually, Darling Sheltie is right beside me, soaking up breezes from my fan and making noises in his doggie-dreams. Haven’t been able to teach him how to read yet, unlike your Charlie (who almost looks as if he doesn’t quite believe what he’s reading!). Hugs to you, darling Kim!

🙂 Always such a delight to visit your blog, Kim. When I see the email alert, I can’t wait to rush over and see what you’ve written. Your room is beautiful.

My aura is my room. 😀 I have a little bunch of things I carry with me wherever I settle down in our home and instantly that becomes my room. Thanks to technology and my penchant for writing long hand, all I need is the laptop and my spirally bound notebooks and fabulous pens. Yes, when the phone rings, someone will hopefully hear and bring it to me. As my folks say, my “stamp” is everywhere in the house in the form of funny little decorations of an item used for everything but what it is meant for.

That said, I’ve never had a room of my own. First, we were too poor to afford it. Eventually, when we could, I found I was used to not having one and liked it. 🙂

Hugs. Love you more than the desire to have a room of my own!
