Kim's Blogs

Precipice, Powerball, & Sex in the City

—Two of my favorite funky fabulous bloggers, Charlene &   Susan, asked me some questions at different
times.  Thus, after pondering this dilemma,  I thought, I KNOW,  I shall answer their questions  (short & sweet  ) with a single blog post.  Thanks, Dears.

1. What would you do if you won the Powerball Lotto?

Easy.  I’d give a huge portion of it away.  One thing I’d do is build a “SAFE HOUSE” for
women leaving abusive relationships.  I’d
hire all of my girlfriends and pay them fabulous salaries so they’d never worry
about money again. The safe house would be overflowing with Dove  & Cadbury chocolate. How lovely that
would be.  Ooo, how lovely.  I’d also give LOTS to Saint Judes, Children’s
hospitals,  & Animal Allies.

2. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where
would it be?

Africa.  It’s always been Africa.   ( I want to meet my Pen Pal & Friend, Mercy Adhiambo. <3

3. If you could trade lives with anyone (from any
period of time), who would you trade with?

Queen Elizabeth
the First.  She was brilliant, powerful,
and had sensational fashion sense.

4. Morning person or night owl?

Night owl.  I never miss Nancy Grace.  I dig sassy chicks.

5. Do you listen to music when you write?

No.  Never.
I’m too busy listening to the voices and muses inside my own head.  They never shut up!

6.
What do you love most about your husband?

His integrity, beauty, kindness, empathy, & compassion.

7. What is it about your husband that drives you
absolutely insane?

His damn
logic.  It causes him to not take more
chances in life. For example, even though we don’t have the money, I’d travel
to Africa or Paris
instantly!  He says,  NO!

8. What accomplishment are you most proud of?

My children.  Period..

9. If your life were to become a movie, who would
you want to play you?

No hesitation.  Angelina Jolie.  I love her.
Not just her beauty, but her humanity.

10. Your desk – messy or neat?

Messy, but not
unorganized.

11. What are you reading right now?

I just finished

Precipice, Write on Edge because my essay, Apple Pie Therapy,  is in it!  You must download this fab book to your kindle
for only  $2.99. The essays are superbly superb.

Literary Anthology

The Literary Anthology of Write on Edge

1.Why did you start blogging?

To tell Kay’s story, to bring her back to life, to
honor her beautiful soul.  My blog has
become so much more…

MY BEST FRIEND & Soul Mate.

2. If you could be granted one wish, what would they be?

I want to talk to my sister, Kay,  SO fucking BADLY.  I have so many words and stories and
questions.  I ‘d run up to her and never
let go.  NEVER.  I shall  never let go.  I want my family whole again.

3. When you don’t want to be bothered, where do you go to hide?

Inside my own mind.  Inside a book.  Inside an Indie movie.  Inside God.

4. Sunny day or cloudy day?

Never  ever cloudy.  Always sunny, light, warmth, green, lilacs,
love.

5. Exercise or TV?

Skip this one, please.

6.Greatest TV scene

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISET9kt5wfE

7.Sex or sleep?

Sleep at night.
Sex in the morning.   Perfect.  ( don’t read this, Daddy )

8. If you could ask God only one question, what would it be?

Why did you leave me on earth without my sister
& soul-mate?  I don’t understand that,
God.

9. What is the best age of your life and why?

All ages before Kay.
None of the ages now.  I know this
sounds sad, but it’s true.

10. If you had to eat only one type of food for the rest of
your life what would it be?

Warm Chocolate Chip Cookies w/  Ice Cold Milk.  Yes.
This would be my last meal.

11.
What are some of your favorite books?
( excluding books by friends )

Lolita, Evening, Night, The Bible,
Ariel, The Journals of Sylvia Plath, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Hours, The Book
of Ruth, A Thousand Splendid Suns, The God of Small Things, The Absolute True
Story of a Part Time Indian, Rose, & all books by Elizabeth Berg.

I sobbed my head off reading Li-Young Lee.  Brilliant Vivid Flowing…

~~Darling Reader,  what are some of your all time favorite
books?  What would your last meal be?

Loved this! Learned more about you and love everything I learn! Thanks for sharing, sweet Kim!
Although I tend to write romance fiction and light suspense fiction, my favorite reads are extremely suspenseful and sometimes downright scary. My favorite book was “Swan Song” by Robert McCammon. It’s long but you can’t put it down!
My last meal would be a big porterhouse steak with a loaded potato. That’s it. No extras. Just set it before me and get out the way! LOL

I’m a morning person and love to listen to music while I write. If I won the Powerball Lotto, I’d give a big portion of it away, too. There are so many needs in the world, and I just can’t imagine spending that kind of money on just me!
Books I love include The Bible, Gone with the Wind, To Kill a Mockingbird, and anything by Andrew Greeley (he accurately captures the nuances of the Irish in a sensitive, loving way).
Thanks, Kim, for sharing yourself with us — I admire that you’re so open!

Um, I think my favorite writer is Proust, but I also love Lawrence Durrell, Nabokov, Hemingway (even tho he was a misogynist), Austen, Nin, Rebecca West, Olivia Manning…. My last meal will have to be pasta carbonara with garlic bread, please. xxxxxxxx

Thrilling to hear the speech by Elizabeth I, her words reaching forward all these hundreds of years. Very special, thank you. Loved your Apple Pie Therapy, your feeling for the dough, the big Buddha tummy and “hell, it’s 5 o’clock in Kenya” and the clarity with which you write. You’re a pro with handling dialogue too … how’d you learn that?

Laughed at answer to number 7.

Some of my favourite books are: Anna Karenina, Post Office by Charles Bukowski (I once worked for The Post Office in London, the ur-Post Office of all post offices), the comic stories of Chekhov (funny and silly and he wrote them for a couple of roubles when he was poor), travel notes Flaubert wrote on his trip to Jordan and Egypt around 1850 (impolitic observations about Arabs and trips to brothels).

Jane Auel and Barbara Kingsolver are two authors I adore…both are well educated women who may write fiction, but it’s all based on facts within their disciplines.

My last meal? The last meal means I would be about to die. Therefore, I’d cross the line on my horrid allergy to shellfish. I’d eat Coquille St. Jacques, prawns, lobster and crab. Yummmmm.

Kim, what you said about your hubs is one of best descriptions of gratitude I’ve heard. No wonder you married him – he’s really got all the right stuff. Good grief, woman, did you pluck him out of the Pope’s All-Star line-up for the pulpit?! 😀

Like you I like the novels of Elizabeth Berg. I also like anything (fiction or otherwise) written by Barbara Kingsolver. And she has a new novel out now – just in time for me to put in a Christmas order. I have become a morning person and really love the soft light of pre-dawn, and listening to the birds wake up for the day. Last meal? Anything with my children, they would pick the menu so it would involve southern comfort food and would be topped of with Bread Pudding. Homemade fried chicken, homemade mac-n-cheese, fresh green beans with bacon bits, big huge green salad, homemade cornbread, maybe even some great Collard Greens.

I am an eclectic reader, I don’t know that I have favorites. I have authors I love like Piers Anthony and Robert Heinlein. If I really had to pick one book I truly loved it would be Time Enough for Love by RH, I have read this one a couple of times. I love his storytelling.

Kim, your answers are wonderful! I think I love your husband, he is terrific. If you need a partner on your trek to Africa I am in, it is one of the places I want to visit and my dearly beloved doesn’t have an interest in going either.

A few weeks ago when the lottery was so crazy high I bought a ticket on the way to volunteer at the local rape and abuse shelter. The entire time I was there I kept thinking of ways to help the shelter when I won. Unfortunately, for the shelter I was not one of the two to win. 🙁 Maybe one day. I would love to help them out and possibly open another facility in the area or an area where there isn’t one available. Oh the things that could be done if I had unlimited funding.

Two of my favorite books are The Great Gatsby and To Kill A Mockingbird. I haven’t read either in awhile. I really need to get them off the bookshelf and reread them.

Where did my comment go? I must spank my computer. You know, I was thrilled I was the 5th or 6th person to comment the day you published the post. I came back to see the reply and lo! no comment. It must be my comp, because another blog I commented on, did not get it. So here I am again.

Your answer to the first question made me cry, because that’s exactly what I would do!

Kim, I love how you play with your words and grab the reader right in. Oh, but I am eagerly waiting for your book! The moment you tell the world that you’ve published it, I’d be the first to go buy it and show it off on my blog.

I love Rohinton Mistry’s books and aspire to write like him. Have you read any of his books? They are simply marvelous. Of course I’ve got a whole list of favorites. I don’t know what my last meal will be. But I do know that I want my head filled with happy thoughts and a sense of fulfillment.

    Hi Kim,
I thought of doing the same thing on my blog. A little question and answer scenario to help my readers know me better.

Either way I like your answers. Africa is the most Beautiful continent on this Earth. I would like to go and check out Victoria Falls someday.

I like your last meal idea. We just made chocolate cookies with walnuts the other night. 🙂

It was really nice to learn more about you. I even tried to answer some of these questions to myself. Sometimes we need to pause and reflect on our lifestyles to avoid swimming with the stream. Thanks for opening your heart and sharing your feelings with your readers.

Kim, I enjoyed reading both the questions and the answers in this post! I feel we know so much more about you! Before reading this I knew you liked chocolate chip cookies and milk and I imagined many of your answers would include Kay, but your readers also got some insight into other aspects of your life and personality. Superb! Love you, lady! 🙂

I had not seen that S in the C clip. Made me cry.

My mother died of breast cancer. I’ve spent my whole life wondering, if/when my turn comes, will I handle it better than she did? With more grace, or less?

Or, because I *left* my abusive relationship, unlike my mother, have I averted her fate entirely?

I am both a morning person and a night owl. Given totally free reign, I would sleep from 2-6 most afternoons. Stay up until the wee smalls, sleep a couple hours, then get up in time to watch the sun rise.

How do we deal with the hands fate has dealt us – you, with losing Kay, me, with losing my mom? And yet, we do, somehow, day after day, one blog post after another. We go on because to do otherwise would betray those we love.
