Just 12 Things

1.   I’m addicted to all types of black shirts,
tank tops, blouses.  I buy one every time
I go shopping.  My friends exclaim,  “Whaaaat?
Another black shirt?  Reeeeally?”

But look what I bought yesterday.   I’m OUTTA my comfort zone, babes.  Do you love love love it?

2. I read an ESSAY 5 years ago by an AMAZING
19 year old Kenyan girl called Mercy.

We’ve talked via internet café and emailed every day since
then.   She resided in a grass hut
without electricity–and read hundreds of books by candlelight that changed her
life.  She learned five languages.  She loved Maya Angelou.

With financial aid from one of my unbelievable Angels,  she will be graduating in August in Nairobi with her BA in Journalism.

I LOVE YOU more than 10 golden lions in the Kenyan sun, Mercy.  xxx

3.    It’s
been HOT in Minnesota.   My kitty cat is not Happy.

4.    I looooooove taping pictures on my refrigerator.   Mr.  L.  goes insane…but the more he does, the more I tape!

5.    Books are scattered and stacked throughout
my house.  Um, lots of COOKBOOKS, I mean.

6. I’m
not downloading the 3rd book of Shades of Grey.  I can’t take one more mention of My Inner
Goddess.

I’m reading Poisonwood Bible.  It’s  like departing mediocrity and flying into paradise.

7. After reading this poet, I exclaimed,  “I am not alone!  This is me!”
This is the kind of impact all writers desire.  Listen to a sample of Plath’s brilliance.

8.     Thomas is Kissing me at the Christmas Play.    I love him <3  and I think he loves me, too.   Ahhh, that tickles.

9.      Mr. Liverpool
and I on Carnival Cruise Lines.  He chased me all over the ship until I finally got fed up and said  “Okay, I’ll give you a little hug. jeeeeze!”

10.     Kay bought me
this for my birthday about 4 years ago….  I didn’t know it played music
until about a year ago.  The song split
me wide open:  You Are My Hero.

11.     I looooooooove this
photo of  Mercy & her Boyfriend,
Simon.

Mercy,  don’t get mad at me!  This is Pure Art.

12.      Kay’s Garden.

Dear Reader,  tell me one thing!

Love the Mercy story and the photo of her with her boyfriend. The camel would scare the shit out of me.

Bristol Boyz Stomp by Doreen Mcgettigan might be a book you would like. Tough story to read, but a shining light on how the justice system does or does not work. She’s an awesome woman, too.

Love your 12 things Kim! That picture of Mercy (who I LOVE and adore) and her boyfriend IS art! Stunning. And the Poisonwood Bible is a great book, but must seem even better after reading 2 books of 50 Shades. You will never have to read the words “Oh my” or “down there” again!

And BTW- have you read The Book Thief by Markus Zusak? Please do if you haven’t and tell me what you think. I think you will love it. (And love me even more for telling you to read it!)

Mercy and her man are beautiful in that photo. This is a great line ‘It’s like departing mediocrity and flying into paradise.’ I enjoyed the book, her writing is as you say, it takes on a flight. I’ve not read the shades of gray. You are not the first to say it’s repetitive, entertaining, but repetitive. I always enjoy your lists..All are inspiring if one is looking for an idea to write about. You’ve given me ideas often over the year. Thanks for that, my sweet.

    Kim, what an incredible DOZEN!!!!!
I spent a long time with this post, looking and listening and thinking…. I don’t know how many emotions swept over me–I grinned when I saw your new shirt, and then I got weepy when I saw Kay’s birthday gift of angels, and then I swooned with admiration at Mercy and her boyfriend, after which Sylvia Plath gnawed at me for a while–“wordless cupboard…” and then I grinned again at the ADORABLE picture & description of you and Mr. Liverpool on the cruise liner!!!!!! So, this was like a roller coaster ride!!! Lucky lucky Mercy to have “met” you…

My thing: Am traveling to Holland today, land of my grandmothers. Will I find them (metaphorically speaking)?

I love the relationship between you and Mercy! Want to hear a secret? I nominated myself for a Dove women who are role models thingy…I pretended my husband nominated me…whatever…details…because I’ve said that if I win, I will send all of the money somewhere in another country and contribute to the education of a brilliant young lady. I know that doesn’t make me nominating myself inexcusable, but I couldn’t resist the opportunity it would offer a human being deserving of greatness! Oh, and your cat looks like it’s melting. Lisa,
thank goodness I’m not the only one.

I have ruffled blacks, tanks, and even a black top with a beaded cross.
MANY black shoes, too. Do you? I LOVE Black dresses.

I SWEAR you’re my soul mate, Kim! When I read no.1, I was spooked. Yep – I am addicted to black too – and have all sorts of things in black, not the least of which is at least 6 T-shirts with Bob Marley on them. Errgh. But I love black. I have formal, casual and all kinds of clothes in black. Can never resist it. And I love what you got yesterday! I’d totaly buy that too!

That photo of Mercy is just fabulous. You’re right – it is pure art. Wow!

You’re right about the 3rd shades of grey. I am kicking my own butt for downloading it (if you ever want to read it, just let me know and I’ll email it to you). I am unable to get past the first few pages. If Ana(l) was a real person, I’d…I’d…ugh. I’d get violent with her. The repetitive phrases are s.i.c.k.e.n.i.n.g.

But books – yes, my house is filled with them. And my son’s collection is far exceeding my own. At least I’ve switched to digital. 😀 I work a part time job just to meet his book expenses. 😀 Kidding!

I am going to do a 12 things post too! 😀 You. Inspire. Me. Always.

When I meet you, I want to visit Kay’s garden.

    Love and hugs, hugs, hugs!

My entire closet is overflowing w/ black….& then I buy colourful scarves to bring
some OOMPH into my universe…and LOts of earrings!

btw, you bring color and oomph into my universe, as well. I have a feeling you bring much much much to everybody you encounter, dear.

Much Love flowing to you in India. XXXX OOOO

Kim: You do have a lot of cook books! That is something I need more of because I am always finding myself wanting to cook something different. I want to be able to cook a lot of different meals that way I do not have to eat fast food so much. Home cooked food is so much better than eating fast food! I bet you know how to cook a lot of different dishes!

Oh yeah, the picture of Mercy and her boyfriend is pure art! It is cool that she has read hundreds of books! I hope that someday I can say I have read hundreds of books, watched hundreds of movies, listened to hundreds of cds, beat hundreds of video games and wrote quite a few books myself. ( :

In order for me to do that it seems I will be losing some sleep.

    Best wishes,
