What I Will Miss & Not Miss When I Die

—-Nora Eprhon
passed away on June 26, 2012.  She was an
American journalist,

essayist,  playwright,
screenwriter, novelist, producer, director, blogger, and lover of life.

She wrote Silkwood, Sleepless in Seattle, Heartburn,  & Julie and Julia.  Watch this awesome scene from when HARRY MET SALLY

The world will be less beautiful without her in it.

In an extract
from her latest book published in the  Guardian earlier this year, she listed
some of the things she would miss and not miss about life. So following Stasha\’s Listicles, I shall do the same

MY EYES MY EYES!!! All that hair on your and Mr. Liverpool – oh shades of the 80’s!!!! I LOVE IT.

I will not miss the constant worry about weight. There is food in heaven and it wouldn’t be heaven if we didn’t like the food – so there is lobster on that table with melted butter. And there are animals in heaven (if He is riding a horse, it wouldn’t be heaven without warm kitties). There is laughter and joy in heaven so it wouldn’t be heaven without fun things to do with your family and friends.

I am working to live my life without regrets. From the time Alpha Hubby and I met, I have been grabbing onto life with both hands, enjoying everything I missed out on before I met him. I refuse to waste another second of my life, ever. After reading this list, I need to work harder at enjoying every single day!! Life in short and is to be lived very much on purpose!

You got me on the finishing second rate books!! Sooo many times I’ve finished them, set them done, and thought, “why the heck did I waste my time? I knew I didn’t like it in the first chapter!” I’ve only recently started allowing/forcing myself to have unfinished books.. although I often relapse 🙂
Thanks for the post! And how about Nora’s? I enjoyed it!

I’d miss my Lazy Boy, my children, Mr Boy’s sweet potato souffle, Little Totsy cooking breakfast and rushing me downstairs to eat, books, birds chirping in the spring, my laptop and studio.

I won’t miss toothaches, periods, stupid people, working, exercising, cooking, politicians, sickness, pollen, and stopping to get gas.

I will miss nothing. I will not miss anything. This world is a crucible of pain and destruction, animals tortured and slaughtered for their skins and meat, children trafficked, women stoned and raped, men killing one another in war.

I will be glad to be rid of the whole shitty mess.

You are ROCKING the blue toenail polish, and those sandals are SO cute. Great lists.

I’m not sure what I believe about what happens next, but I’m thinking one of two things:

Either heaven is all the blissful things from Earth, like strawberries & champagne, books and butterflies, hot men who feed you chocolate after sex,

    OR,

You get to come back and try again. In which case I would hope to be born in the US again, or Europe (see champagne, chocolate), rather than on a hillside in some impoverished country where I shared my bed with goats. (Yes, I’m spoiled. But if I ended up in such a place, I hope I’d have the grace to make the best of it.)

I will not miss bugs, underwear that rides up my crotch, or blemishes that co-exist with wrinkles. Nor cleaning toilets.

If you believe in heaven then it is pure bliss and no missing or not missing will be going on. If you don’t believe in heaven then you are just D.E.A.D.

Wonderful post–I loved reading your lists. I would miss so many things–my husband, my cats, books, writing . . . I will not miss worry, anxiety, depression, time, despair, war, hate . . .

And I believe in a heaven. I don’t know what it will be like, but my loved ones, including my lost kitties, better be there! 🙂

When I attempted to do something really stupid during a time of crisis, my doctor told me to write down the things I would miss out on and keep them tucked in my medicine cabinet….
You don’t really realize how much you’ll miss out on.

I had not seen that quote by Nora. I miss her so much already. As for things I will miss, I look at it this way: Almost every time I’ve moved into a new home, I’ve loved it and can’t imagine myself being happier anywhere else. But the next time I move I feel the same and seldom miss anything about the old place. And I believe the same will occur after I die. While there’s much that now brings me great joy and would miss greatly if it was gone, once I move on everything is new again. The only connection being love, which we never lose because love is all there is.

    Kim,

I would miss every single thing.
And then I’d be happy to be in heaven with all my missing friends and relatives again.
And then I’d do it all again.
    Repeat
    Repeat
    Repeat
Until I get it absolutely perfect and won’t feel the need any longer.

    Love you!

Hi darling! I love your lists. And I laughed when I saw your Kindle on Fifty Shades! Lol! And I have all the same books. And I know you will not miss those trips to the cemetery. That made me sad.

I will miss the beach, my painted toes digging into the sand. The sun on my face. The increasingly rare cat-call that makes me feel like I’ve still got it.

I will not miss taking out the trash or paying the bills.

    Glad to see you here.

Love your lists. And of course I believe in Heaven. My Mom’s there.

Book two of Fifty Shades eh? I recently got the first one. 😀 Yet to read it. And of course, I’ll want to read part 2 just to know how it ended! 😀

When Harry Met Sally is one of my all time favorite movies, Kim. I could watch it again and again. It has some great nostalgic memories for me.

So tempting to make my own list. I saw Terri’s listicles to this prompt and enjoyed the idea. Your list totally rocks.

I just wondered – have you added new pics to the slideshow on the sidebar ? I saw some new ones, or so I thought. 🙂

Love you, Kim! You are a magnet of love. You were born to be a writer. Huggggs!

Those are some seriously gorgeous toes girl! I’m with you on the morning coffee. I actually go to bed at night looking forward to my morning coffee :).

When Harry Met Sally remains one of my all time favourites (in fact, whenever my kids ask me what my favourite movie is – as kids do – I always name it). And the purr of a cat… I spent the first year of my dog’s life waiting for her to purr – heehee! There are some things only cats can do.

    Smooches to you!

    Oh Kimmy.
The only thing I can really think I would miss on earth is all the people I love . I know heaven is paradise so all the beautiful things of nature would already be there. And to see everyone in heaven that I knew and haven’t met yet like relatives who died when I was too young to remember or died before I was born would be awesome. Things I won’t miss are bad people and fricking Mosquitos as I’m sitting out on my deck getting eaten alive !! Xxxxoooo

My dearest Kim, how I miss reading your blog posts as soon as you post them! The WiFi is so slow here it’s driving me insane! I love, love your lists! Both the things you’ll miss and those you won’t. I would definitely miss Roxy, my children, and my family. I would miss giggling, drinking coffee, dreaming of Javier Bardem, the smell of the sea, and Clarins perfume. I would miss cotton candy, gummy bears, chocolate chips, and brownies. I would NOT miss cleaning the house, doing laundry, gossiping neighbors, societal norms, discrimination, bigotry, and arrogant people. I would also not miss paying taxes, paying bills, and the downstairs neighbor who complains when Roxy barks. And yes, I do believe in heaven. If I don’t have the chance to meet you in person while will we’re still alive, do you think we can meet up in heaven? Love you, lady! 🙂
