I Neeeeever make New Year’s Resolutions.
Why?
Because although my intentions are admirable and sincere, I
DO NOT keep them.
I once declared at midnight, “I’m going to stop eating chocolate
beginning riiight now.”
That resolution lasted until 12:05.
Another year… I stood up, lifted my arms to the ceiling like Scarlett from Gone With The Wind…
And says to Mr. Liverpool boldly & earnestly, “I shall
be slipping into those size 7 jeans come June, baaaabe. Get ready for your hot mama.
As God is my witness,
I Will Never be fat again.”
I might as well have looked in the mirror and hollered, “Fuck You, Loooser.”
Most New Years Resolutions are S T U P I D and Unrealistic.
I know this chick who confessed she was going to give up
sugar for her whole damn stinkin’ life.
Who could do that? And why would you want to?
Anyhow, I saw her at the grocery store the other day…
….Her ass arrived about 3 minutes after she did.
Or what about those individuals who say— “My Resolution is to work
out for an hour
every.
single. day.”
You’re pumped up to
join a trendy gym to get your sexy back by Spinning, Tae- Boing, Yoga-ing,
Tai-chi-ing, and Zumba-ing.
Or you swear you’ll be running the treadmill every night
after work.
But what ends up happening is—
After a long day of toil and sweat, you get home and you’re exhausted.
You end up fixing supper, if you’re lucky, and watch a re-run of some mindless Lifetime Movie.
So…
My Resolution is not to make a Resolution.
Why start something I can’t finish?
Some superficial shallow shitty sacrifice?
I’m not giving up sugar, that’s for daaamn sure.
…..But I do pray for purpose.
I do pray for this so-called- horrible journey I’m suddenly on
without Kay to have some sort of impact,
some sort of meaning.
In O’s January Issue, Oprah’s new goal was inspired by her Sufi
teacher:
~~”A Feather on the Breath of God….Flowing where I can
best be used in service to my calling.”~~
Yes.
This is precisely what I want.
To be used.
To be used up.
All up…
What other reason are we here?
Oh, and by the way, I still have those size 7 jeans hanging in my
closet.
Perhaps…I shall wear them one
day.
Perhaps not.
——Dear, Readers, do you make
New Year’s Resolutions? If so, what are they?

January 2, 2012 at 7:05 pmThat’s funny….until THIS year, my resolution was to NOT make them! This year – I made resolutions. Not so much a “resolution” as things I’d like to see happen with my blogging life. Some I can tell you, and some are private goals.
However, two of them are inspired by Y-O-U! You mentioned that you’d like to see me write more personal posts and I’m including more about myself, my day or what’s going on around me in some posts. The other thing is you are FUNNY and I wanted to have more FUN with my posts. (and I certainly did with Chickaboom! I think she’ll come back when I do more pork recipes!).
So…thank you! You have helped me come out of my blogging shell and I’m having a GREAT time! Hugs to you….

January 2, 2012 at 7:15 pmI ain’t giving up sugar either. Being that I ain’t sweet all the time, a girl needs some kinda sustenance. I’ve got a size 6 in my closet. Was almost there at one point. Got the darn things home and I looked like a damn fool. Why they looked like they fit when I eyeballed them in the store? Anyway…
You have a challenge to turn this blog into something beyond, after losing Kay. A family documentary. A collage of her life. A woman’s journey who’s story we may never hear. Public service announcements. Kay’s story isn’t yours but hers may be yours to tell. I don’t know.
Blessings…

January 2, 2012 at 8:51 pmI prefer to think of resolutions as a mindset of sorts for the year. Like, pick a word and apply it to life for the year, e.g., simplify, growth, calm etc.

January 3, 2012 at 5:25 amI’ve come to the conclusion that, by and large, resolutions are those things people feel they should be doing, or need to do, in order to be beautiful, healthy, rich, sexy, successful, yada, yada, yada.
I haven’t made resolutions in years, but for this new year, I chose to set intentions, all of which have plans and action steps attached, and all of which I want to do.

January 3, 2012 at 6:19 amI indeed, have made some resolutions this year.
And I think they seem more like some general thoughts about my goals for the year ahead.
I am 35 now and slowly begin to think about aging and the very sense of life in general.
So my resolution no. 1 is to consequently find the time to write / blog more frequently.
This is one of the most meaningful things I see in my life right now.
And I do not mean writing as a form only – guess the very idea is to SHARE with others, to be of some help/aid – exactly in the way you do it, Kay!!
Writing today can be a powerful tool to change the world, if not the whole at once, so only a very small bit of it.
And my resolutions for writing this year are:
– my private NUCLEAR WAR on CANCER ( I am not sick myself, but I am scared to death…)
– tips for better life, health and shape ( nothing to keep you away from your beloved chocolate, promise!!)
– womanhood and motherhood (the pure classic)
– supporting my friends and fellow bloggers (of course)
I invite you cordially to check me if I hold them all! Be my Write-Watchers, please!!!
All the best to you and your family in 2012 and keep up your great job you do on your blog!!!!
Love, love, love…

On another note, the line about her ass arriving three minutes later saw the tea I was sipping splatter on my keyboard. Funny one! January 3, 2012 at 8:49 pmWell, I try to set “goals” or a to-do list for the new year. I have given up sugar and flour for the first time in my life but only for a few months. I’ll eat it again. I’ve just gotta shred this effing fat that’s appeared in my ass and stomach!
And no drinking for a while. Pray for my sanity.
To answer your comment on my page….Pinterest–it’s addicting. I’m on there as impulsive addict. I use it to make new recipes but you can use it for ANYTHING! I didn’t get it at first and now I’d rather look at pinterest instead of blog!!!

I’m still not sure why this is so addicting. What do I post on there?

January 3, 2012 at 10:28 pmWhenever you feel like your voice is too small to make a difference, remember me.
Your support and encouragement has meant so much to me. It really has.
Every time you write about Kay…
we are all listening and I am certain that there is a woman out there who needed to hear your words in order to encourage her to get out of an unhealthy relationship.
Every time you write…
you bring smiles and laughter and thoughts…
That is amazing.
I’m using the shit out of you.
There, I said it.
You’re my bitch.
hee hee.

January 3, 2012 at 11:16 pmI never make resolutions either. No point when I know I won’t keep them. I hope you find your purpose this year. I think that is an excellent goal.

January 4, 2012 at 12:29 pmI couldn’t agree more, Kim…I didn’t make any resolutions this year either. I don’t want to go through the trouble of breaking that resolution (which is very likely)! I considered giving up sweets, but that would be way too difficult for me…then I wouldn’t be able to bake! That’s just crazy talk. 😉
