Kim's Blogs

9 of My Favorite Things

1. Keurig Coffee Maker:   My daddy surprised me with this gem for my birthday.  I love love  love it.  I awaken in the morning, throw in my Caribou  cup w/ real whip cream & work on my blog.   Loooovely.

 Adele - 21 (2011) FLAC

2. Adele :   I get hooked on certain artists:  Madonna, Nora Jones, Robin Thicke, & now,  Adele.   I usually play her on Saturdays when I’m cleaning the house.   Listening to her voice is like small prayers filling my house.

3. Click Here for>> Bonnie Bell Lip Lites:    OOOO, My…  I looooooooove this stuff.   Everytime I put it on, I feel dressed up & sexy….even in sweat pants!

4. Andrew & Alex:   What can I say?  My heart melts away.  (please excuse Charlie’ s butt)

5. Project Runway:   The concept of taking nothing (except an idea) and designing something magnificent and magical thrills me.  I compare P.R.  to the writing process.

[PRoject+Runway.jpg]

6. My Books of Poetry:   I never borrow my poetry books out —nor would I part with them.   God lives inside the pages.

7. These Shoes w/ Skinny Glitter  Jeans:   I adore this funky, hip look.  All a girl needs now is a Pink Martini!

8. Kay’s Journals’ & Bible:  I have all of my sister, Kay’s, journals… but more significantly, I have her Bible, which is shaded in yellows, ripped, dog-eared, overflowing with photos, and utterly worn out and gloriously beautiful.    I shall NEVER part it…even in death I will be buried with it.

9. Click Here to Get>>My Favorite Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe:   Nothing tastes more like childhood & home than chocolate chip cookies.    Biting into the warm brown crust tastes like pure, undying love.

I am in awe of your pictures of Kay’s journal, beautiful and touching. It took my breath, Kim. I’m with you on Adele, she’s a rare gem. Like you and the CD you play in your car… his name escapes me, dang…. the one you play over and over driving your son nuts. Anyway, I do the same thing when I fall in love with sing or singer, even a lyric will send me over the repeat edge. The only think missing here was the red wine to accompany those yummy cookies.

Oh, I love more things than I don’t love — you know? I love my lifetime partner, my son, my ex-husband 🙂 I adore my mother, sister, father, brothers! And of course, the women who make me laugh, think, change my mind and thank God for girlfriends! I love chocolate chip cookies — the kind that are thin and brittle. I love a perfect grapefruit martini. I love an ice ice ice-cold light beer. I love feeling healthy and I especially love when my brain is in high-gear. I love when my 22-member family is altogether! I love God and his graces and I love laughing. I love clothes and shopping for clothes and dressing other women in clothes that they love. I love singing and listening to my fave music from the 70s and 80s. I love the lake. I love the sunshine. Okay I’m almost done. I LOVE LOVE LOVE when my son is happy. And I love Kim’s wit, wisdom, inspiration, humor and depth. Thank you for reminding me to name things I love every day!

Oh Kim, you have me thinkin’. What do I LOVE? I love my five silly dogs. They make my house a home. I am loving my new shop space, it is how I think a little antique/gift shop should look. I love to eat out with girlfriends and share stories over Margaritas. I love all the new friends I’ve made since my husband passed away and all the old ones that stay close. Family goes without saying too much!. I love my crappy Folgers coffee that I make as thick as expresso. I love writing, collecting books, vintage paintings, and old garden statues. I love the city lights at night. I love to sing like a rock star with the radio in my car. I love it when someone says, “you don’t look that old!”. I think I love most of all that you can make someone else’s life better, if only just for a moment, by caring. You, my dear, make everyone’s life better!

Oooo I’d never heard of Adele – WHAT a voice! Love it love it love it – ITunes here I come! What do I love – a ROOF. We are replacing ours and it suddenly RAINED – so it is now raining in my house. I have buckets galore and towels and did I mention BUCKETS? Speaking of which, I’d better go dump out the smaller containers on the window sills. I love completed roofs. I’m going to be up awhile. *Sigh* OH – LOVE ALL 9 OF YOUR THINGS – I may have to break down and get a Keurig – don’t they do tea pods too?

It’s a great list and I’ve just recently been introduced to adele. She is really talented. Kay’s Bible is truly a precious heirloom ~ and I’m glad you have it. I always write in my cookbooks what I’ve done to a recipe, how I liked it, when I made it and what I did to change it. One day – I hope to pass them down…and they are dog eared and adored.

I have a Flavia coffee maker – which was the precursor to the Keurig. They’re awesome, aren’t they?

    Great list!

I’m a Project Runway junkie – in part because I’m a seamstress and so have a great appreciation for the process of constructing garments. In fact, a couple years ago a couple friends and I engaged in a co-created Project Runway challenge in which we had $10.00 total to spend at Goodwill to gather garments to be used for fabric, and the dollar store for notions. We had five hours to sew, and were required to end up with a garment we could wear and model. We ended up with five judges, and had a whole lot of fun. 🙂

What a treasured thing to have your sister’s bible. I love the heels and chocolate chip cookies are always one of my favorite things, though they’re too risky to make most days. But when I do, I need to have some whole milk to go with them. 🙂

I’ve also just started truly loving poetry.

And I LOVE Adele.. she’s amazing. I also agree with you about the poetry books and I already have a glittery pair of Carlos Santana shoes that I love. Great cushion in them but somehow they’re murder on the feet if you stand in them for too long lol.

That’s a beautiful list, Kim. Funny – I treasure my mom’s coffee filter (except that mine’s ancient – just google south indian coffee filter, you’ll know what am saying) and I also love to go through her books, her journals and her prayer books (she had a basketful of them). And everywhere she would write something on a sheet of paper and keep it there. Most of all, I find cash in the weirdest places among her things – some money tucked away inside a book, some in a diary – as if she wanted me to find it all. And oh, her recipe books!

I really love your list. Am so inspired to do a similar one on my blog ;-). Probably this Sunday.

Hugs….such a pleasure to visit you. Sigh. I can almost smell that coffee. Keurigs rock.

I know. I love finding little papers tucked inside her bible & journals…& Kay has her lipsticked mouth blotted throughout her Bible, too. Little notes about what to get at the grocery store & what to eat for her new diet. Phone Numbers. stuff like that.

I hope you do this on Sunday! I must google your Indian Coffe Filter.

Adele’s 19 was strong. 21 is simply timeless. In the past two years, Adele has refined and reinvented her unique sound that always puts her aching yet powerful vocals and lyrics at the forefront. These are songs that could have been released in the 60s as easily as 30 years from now. Adele has injected her trademark piano ballads with the best from several different musical genres including Americana roots and country, r&b, blues and gospel. The music is exciting and simply is. It lives, breathes. I played a couple songs for my mom, who at forty years older than I, generally criticizes my music taste, and the first thing she said was “Wow, this girl really knows how to write a story–those songs are beautiful.”
