I’M FROM…..
I’m from pink bubblegum carpet and bunk beds with boy’s names carved inside the oak– living on the West side.
I’m from generations of Sicilians where big mamas stirred homemade spaghetti sauce with basil and garlic and rolled out potato gnocchi.
I’m from orange Kool-Aid, peanut butter sandwiches, and running thru sprinklers in Aunt Carol’s yard on hot summer days.
I’m from frosty Minnesota winters creating snow angels with my sister, Kay.
I’m from Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, and Non-Denominational churches where I finally figured out it doesn’t matter a damn. I loved Jesus no matter where I sat.
I’m from Madonna’s: Like a Virgin, Lucky Star, and Papa Don’t Preach.
I’m from putting on black eyeliner & deep red lipstick on Piedmont Avenue with Sue before we drank cheap beer all night at the Pit.
I’m from big sprayed hair, Marlboro cigarettes, and a bit of hash… sweating on plastic seats– French kissing in Mike’s Corvette.
I’m from Mother Goddess who listened to Pasty Cline and baked warm chocolate chip cookies for us after school.
I’m from Jong, Sexton, Oliver & Plath.
(My all time fav. book)
I’m from poetry, metaphor, vowels, and symbolism.
I’m from sexy pole dancer to green eggs & ham.
I’m from single in the city to a married with kids.
I’m from Cruise Ships, London, Liverpool, Miami, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Nassau, & Cozumel living without inhibition.
(Carnival Cruise)
I’m from mourning, lamenting, weeping, and drinking too much Merlot.
I’m from resurrecting & rising after monsters and murders.
I’m from darkness.
I’m from light.
I’m from dying while still living.
I’ve from the salt of Margaritas mingled with the salt of tears.
But mostly,
I’m from Love.
It overflows into my soul like waterfalls. It gushes. It surges. It drowns me.
The love is enough for 5 lifetimes….
(Me & My Soul Mate & greatest Love, Kay)

September 23, 2011 at 3:13 pmcan’t be done in one sentence, as you so magically displayed. you are all these vibrant things, and so much more. i am from the same place as you. i am from the rainbow of our ancestral line, given the gift of life, dealing with grief and joy in this friendly universe but fallen world, rediscovering myself repeatedly, loving and being loved, best i can, progressing and being satisfied with who i am, and so much more.
awesome post. how inspirational:)

Phil
September 24, 2011 at 8:15 amI am from New England, born here of immigrant Italian parents who worked their asses off to show me life is worth living at full bore; friends and family are worth all your loyalty and loving; emotions are worth putting on full display, that it’s OK to be moved to tears or to laugh so hard it infects and lifts everyone around you or to erupt like a volcano in passionate anger or to bubble with joy and glee at something delightful; and most importantly, if you’re going to do something, put a lot of passion into it – nothing half-assed.
See what happens when you force me to one sentence? It runs on and on and on… 🙂
Nicely done Kim. Pleased to know you a little bit better from all those one sentence reveals.

September 24, 2011 at 1:38 pmNice post – such lovely images. The more I know where I’m from, the more I know where I’m going is limitless.
I’m from sparklers lit by my dad, my grandmother’s bible, soft puppy fur, the smell of morning coffee, the lies of whiskey drunks, filthy boxing bags, and the best hugs my husband saves just for me.
Which about sums it up in a nutshell.

September 24, 2011 at 11:25 pmWOW do I ever looooove this post. And you’re a Sylvia Plath fan, too? We might be long-lost bloggy sisters 🙂
I’m from hand-me-downs and socks with sandals which were supposed to provide a spine in my formative years, but left me feeling like the weirdo in Phys Ed instead; from Tori Amos and teenage angst to shoulderpads, obnoxious cursive, and classroom daydreams; German Christmas cookies and a tree that stayed up well into February.
