In a large bowl stir together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder. Set aside.

If You Touch Me, You’ll Burn Red

In a separate bowl whisk together buttermilk, milk, egg, sugar, melted butter, vanilla, and food coloring. Whisk until all combined. Pour liquid ingredients into the mixing bowl with the dry ingredients and stir with a wooden spoon until dry ingredients are combined. Batter will be runny like soup. If it’s thicker than soup add a little more milk, and make sure batter is not lumpy.

Heat cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. When well heated turn down to medium heat and spoon or ladle 1/4 cup of batter into the center of the skillet. Swirl the batter in the bottom of the pan until it coats the bottom thoroughly in a thin layer. As the batter cooks it will dry and lose it’s shine (approximately 2 minutes). Using a metal spatula carefully flip the crepe over and finish cooking a few more seconds. Gently slide onto a plate and repeat with remaining batter. Makes 24 crepes.

I feel like getting fork freaky with those crepes and yes … guilt after gastronomic delight usually follows the indulgence.

    And my favorite red:

    True Blood Red … 🙂

Hmm. Where are the red cherries, Kim? And those amazingly glistening pomegranate seeds coated with the fruit?

You know – the “mehendi” the design on the feet with henna – which you want for your birthday – we get the stick-on type stuff that you can just apply and peel off – and voila! you’ve got what the real thing takes several hours to do. 🙂 Some day, when I meet you, I promise to have your feet AND hands looking pretty like that. I could probably snail mail the sheets to you.

And – a red crepe silk saree to drape around you, and a glittery red clutch purse. How’s that?

      —Ohhhhhhhhh, Vidya,
so you do this to your feet, hands?
Or do only women do this who are getting married?
      Is it popular in India?
      sooo beautifully feminine. soooooo sexy.
I love love love it. xxxx

Designs with henna on hands and feet is a celebration thing – predominantly at weddings though. “Mehendi” (henna) is a standalone event and great fun before the north Indian wedding. Someone is usually hired to come over and apply it for the group of women invited for the event. And then we gotta wait for it to dry – takes 2-3 hours, at least. Then, it is washed off to reveal the beautiful red design. This stays for a couple of weeks at least. And of course, the fairer the color of the hands, the lovelier it looks.

Interestingly – the designs differ across regions. Sometimes, they create designs in two parts – one part on the left hand and the other on the right so that when you place your palms side by side (little finger to little finger), you see the complete design.

        Yes, it is gorgeous 🙂

I love the decadence of red. One of my favorite colors (the other being purple, which feels close to red). This is a great poetic tribute to red and my favorite versions of red can be found on the apple the witch gives to Snow White, and the red dress Scarlett O’Hara wears to Melanie’s party. Yikes. Now that’s red!

Kimmy,I love the color (RED), is there a more beautiful bird than the cardinal? How about bull fighters,

they use a red cape, or hummining birds, they love red food. Why do we use permentos or red peppers
or even paprika in salads or some hot dishes? Because it makes the food look better or even tast better.
Although, sometimes red isn’t so good like seeing red when you get angry, or a red check when we
screw up.But i have to say Marlyn looks pretty good in red.

    Love You More Than Red
