10 People I’d Meet For A Glass Of Wine.

1.  Maya Angelou:  because I adore her prose & poetry.  Imperfect.  Flawed.  Writes about it.  Voice is like flowing maple syrup.

Listen Here—–Maya Angelou’s Phenomenal Woman by Islandbreed 0001‏ – YouTube

2.  Sean Penn:  because he’s a bad boy humanitarian.   Sexy.   Smart.   Unconventional. Rebellious.

Sean Penn

3.  Johnny Depp:  because he beats to his own drummer.  Unconventional.  Intellectual.  Beautiful. Out of the Loop.

4.  Madonna:  because we grew up together, both loved Sean Penn at the same time. Very Smart.  Connection to Africa.   Pro Active.  Still dance to Lucky Star.

5.  Oprah Winfrey:   because she sees people,  hears people.   One of the girls.  Brilliant.  Innovative.  Life Changing.

Oprah Winfrey

6.   Elizabeth Berg:  because she is my ‘hot fudge sundae’ author, my feel good author.  She speaks for all women.      Love love love her.   I’ve read all of her books at least 2 times.

7.   Ellen DeGeneres:  because she’s funny as hell.  Humanitarian.  Animal Lover.  Activist.  Kind. A girl’s girl.

8.  Billy Graham:   because when every other religous leader judges and condemns,  Billy just LOVES  loves  loves.   Beautiful Man.  I respect him greatly.

9.  George Clooney:  because he’s so utterly unassuming & unaffected by his beauty.  Brainy.  Pro-Active.  Observes others besides himself.   Hot.  oh, and he loves Puppies.

10.  Jane Fonda:  because she’s been in 2 of my fave. movies, “Julia”  &  “Klute.”     Strong.   Bright.  Inspiring.  Interesting.  Controversial.

Ditto on Maya Angelou, George Clooney and Jane Fonda. Of course, I would open my mouth and nothing would come out. But that’s ok. I would like to just drink my wine while they talk. I would add Hillary Clinton and JLo to my list as well.

Gonna have to X George Clooney. Not too sure about Billy Graham. I’ll have to find out more about Elizabeth Berg.

I’ll add Joel Osteen (because he always has an uplifting story and seems to be just a really nice guy) to the list for me, as well as Chris Rock (because he’s about smart comedy that addresses topics people are talking about) and Ruby Dee (because she and Ozzie (R.I.P.) were such a beautiful couple. She carries herself with class and is as sweet as my great-mother (R.I.P) was).

I would like to have met Abraham Lincoln….what he did for our country and the pressures he must have endured…I’d like to know what he thought at the time.

I’d love to sit and talk to Thomas Jefferson – The declaration of independence is so eloquent…I think I’d like to just hear him talk!

I’d like to have wine (and cook) with Julia Child…actually, I would like to have met her during her cookbook writing process and sit and watch the entire 8 or so years it took her to write it.

I’d like to meet Ben Franklin – he’s Americas polymath – I’d like to see how he ticks. Although I would be afraid to say anything for fear of sounding ignorant! But he struck me as a guy with a sense of humor.

I’d like to meet Steven Spielberg – he is a brilliant film maker and a true innovator. How does he come up with this stuff?

I also just gave my youngest daughter, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and am anxious for her to read it so we can discuss it! Very good list. Can I come? Please? I’ll wash wine glasses and bring cheese & crackers.

Elizabeth Berg – don’t know her, but she sounds amazing from her site. Coach an E. Berg virgin in which book I should read FIRST, since I obviously can’t read 15 of them simultaneously. (Be a damn good trick if I could, though.)

Not sure if Billy is up for wine these days. I’d be delighted with either Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert in his place, if he had to miss – both those guys are SMART and quick on their feet.

I could make the list a lot longer, especially if we could invite the no longer living (Why not? They won’t eat or drink much.) But just sticking with ten – enough to make it interesting and actually get to talk with each person, fabulous list. 🙂

Maya Angelou would be a great choice, of course. If my wine guests and I were going to get into a discussion of literature I would also want to invite Toni Morrison and Sapphire, the author of ‘Push’ (‘Precious’). Madonna would also be extremely interesting, especially if I also invited Lady Gaga, and maybe Courtney Love. If I wanted a really interesting conversation, I’d also invite Camille Paglia, and she could bring along Gloria Steinem. Gloria Steinem could bring her gorgeous, interesting stepson Christian Bale, and he could bring his friend Winona Ryder.

Gaga Would be fabulous…Much more down to earth than Madonna.
Steinem would be VERY interesting….Forget Bale–She should bring Erica Jong!
      Toni M. & Sapphire. Yes.
But …. out of all the literary creatures: Plath would be NUMBER 1 on my list. (of course, I’ll need to wait for that) xxX
